Welcome to Mr. Toliver’s Social Studies Blog!

Hey Everybody!

We are starting off the semester reviewing the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the significance of the first 10 amendments this week.

We will be discussing these topics:

The Articles of Confederation and its weaknesses.

Arguments amongst the signers of the Constitution leading up to its passage.

The 3 branches of government

The fundamental rights of each amendment in the Bill of Rights, including freedom of speech and press; the right to assemble and petition the government, the right to keep and bear arms; the right to a trial by jury and the right to an attorney.

In addition to our work studying US history, we will also have a quote of the week, which will explore issues such as personal responsibility, character, and mutual respect.

This week’s quote is:

Character is doing the right thing when no one is looking

J.C. Watts
