Parents and students,

Here is our review for our test on Friday.  We will be reviewing all of this information on Thursday, and the students will have a review to take home to study.  Additionally, I will be sending them home with their journal, which has the definitions for the test.

This week we will begin our drive westward across the county, the period known as Westward Expansion!  This is the period from 1803-1890 and we will be discussing these events and more:

The Louisiana Purchase

Let’s go!!

American Pioneers Crossing the Plains in Covered Wagons

Our quote of the week is:

Goodness is about character-integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage, and the like.  More than anything, it is about how we treat other people.

Thursday is review day!

Today we reviewed the Liberty kids video I showed the class on Wednesday.  Here is a link for you to watch too!

We had a 10 question review today, and the kids were told to bring their review home to study for our test tomorrow!

Welcome to Mr. Toliver’s Social Studies Blog!

Hey Everybody!

We are starting off the semester reviewing the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the significance of the first 10 amendments this week.

We will be discussing these topics:

The Articles of Confederation and its weaknesses.

Arguments amongst the signers of the Constitution leading up to its passage.

The 3 branches of government

The fundamental rights of each amendment in the Bill of Rights, including freedom of speech and press; the right to assemble and petition the government, the right to keep and bear arms; the right to a trial by jury and the right to an attorney.

In addition to our work studying US history, we will also have a quote of the week, which will explore issues such as personal responsibility, character, and mutual respect.

This week’s quote is:

Character is doing the right thing when no one is looking

J.C. Watts
